Pi Astrid Queen of the Belgians was killed instantly when an automobile driven by Leopold III skidded and toppled into Lake Lucerne. Leopold was injured. Astrid was catapulted from the car and died at the scene. The couple, married in 1926, had been staying near Lucerne en route to their villa. The accident ends her brief reign and they had summered at Lucerne this year.
