Elyria Teachers Ratify Compromise Two Year Contract

Elyria teachers last night ratified a compromise two year agreement hammered out after a marathon bargaining session with a federal mediator. The 6 percent pay raise increases base salary from 8,700 to 9,225 and costs the district 169,490 this year and 492,160 in 1978, contingent on a 4.8 mill levy passage. The contract also includes a reduced force policy tied to enrollment, curriculum changes, or financial need, with job protections and seniority retained for two years. The school board must approve, with action expected Monday night.
