Memorial services planned for Elyria Catholic player Rivera

Memorial services are planned for Lester Rivera the Elyria Catholic football player who died from brain damage after a practice. Elyria Catholic High School will close Monday for students to attend the funeral in Eastlake at St Justin Martyr Church with a Monday 11 am Mass. Buses will transport EC students to the service and seniors plan a prayer service Sunday at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held at St Joseph's Amherst a week later. Rivera survived by his parents Dr and Mrs Jose Rivera siblings Carolyn Juliet and extended family. Services open to friends today 7 9 pm and Sunday 2 4 and 7 9 pm. Reverend John Sullivan will officiate.

Judge Mikus delays trial after clash with court reporter

A courtroom flareup between Judge Paul J. Mikus and court reporter Thomas Masterson halted jury deliberations in the case of Harry Stevenson Jr., 30, of Elyria, charged with aggravated robbery and felonious assault at the Lawson store. Jurors were sent home until Monday while another reporter, struggling to read Masterson’s notes, prepared to resume. Stevenson denied the charges after a $196.14 robbery and a clerk shot in the right thigh.
