Demolition crews pulled down the east wall of the Rialto theater on Second Street. Three photos captured the moment as wall sections fell with a thunderous crash while a large crowd watched and listened to the wrecking work.
A powerful quake destroyed a 20 block business area in Bakersfield killing two and injuring 32. Search parties hunted for victims in Lerner's Dress Shop and Kern Implement Co. while a lone 14 year old Boy Scout calmed panicked theater patrons.
A London prison farm drinking spree involving lacquer thinner wood alcohol killed three convicts and left six ill. Prison officials delayed calling a doctor by about ten hours after learning of the contraband drink. John Johnson, a Cincinnati murderer, confessed selling the thinner to nine inmates. Parole violators Walter Wade Allen County, O B Ingram Wyandot County, Stanley Holladay Butler County identified among the men. two in critical condition at Ohio Penitentiary hospital. Four other prisoners reported for treatment after the evening meal warning.
Lake Erie proved rough for Star sailboats as the final 1952 Great Lakes Championship race began today. Don Bever of Vermilion, skipper of Luscious Too, is chief contender and needs only a tenth place to clinch the title.

LaGrange report notes 11 year old Sandra Yarosh of Whitehead Road was moved to Gates Children's Hospital Elyria after Cleveland City Hospital diagnosis of poliomyelitis. Mildred Ebeling 15 of Nickel Flate Diagonal Road LaGrange R D is improving at Cleveland City Hospital and has left the iron lung.
The Federal Power Commission grants Ohio Fuel Gas Co. temporary authority to build and operate about 37 miles of pipeline in Ohio replacing two lines in Crawford Wyandot Seneca and Richland counties. Project cost listed at 1,492,500 dollars. Carnival Lorain listings note shows at St Stanislaus grounds 28th and Elyria Ave, Lorain with showtimes 7 p.m. tonight 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday.
Four major oil companies and six subsidiaries face suits in U S District Court overcharging the government for Middle East oil sent to Marshall Plan recipients. The government seeks more than 67000 dollars, alleging a two price system with profits pegged to foreign aid programs. Firms named include Texaco, Esso Exports, Socony Vacuum, and California Texas Oil, all denying the claims and defending abroad operations as beneficial to the United States.

Washington reports the draft pool is shrinking as Korean war draftees finish two year hitches. By year’s end 80,000 draftees monthly will be discharged unless they re-enlist. Through next July over 550,000 will be eligible for discharge, prompting officials to consider drafting fathers or other deferred groups by next summer.

Assemblyman Ryu Shi Tai admitted giving a German automatic that he knew was malfunctioning. Ryu pulled the trigger twice during Rhee's June 25 address, but the weapon failed to fire.
