A crowd of about 1500 watched the closing Field Day as Cascade Park opened grounds for the day. Senior All-Stars beat McKinley Seniors 16 to 12 in seven innings while Junior All-Stars edged Franklin Juniors 9 to 8. Hamilton girls defeated Gates in the 6 30 p m game. Tennis drew praise and yielded multiple divisions winners including Shirley Thompson and Dave Robertson. Individual event winners spanned Little Midget to Senior levels across girls and boys, with McKinley and Franklin prominent in many titles. Volunteers staged horseshoes, volley ball between Garford and Gates, folk dancing and handwork as part of a varied program marking the season’s end.

Police arrest bootleggers with seized liquor in Cleveland
Patrolmen Southam and Sweet arrested Julius Rosen and Jack Weiss on Lodi Street near Cascade Park after spotting a red car with a man at the wheel. Six five gallon cans of alcohol were found in a compartment. Weiss was fined 1000 dollars plus costs and his car confiscated. Rosen was fined 500 dollars plus costs. Both jailed until payment. NICE August 23 Trepanning operations for skull fractures were performed today on Prof. RB Miller of Delaware and Robert Person, injured in an auto bus accident near Guillaumes Monday when six Americans were killed. Isaac Strayhorn of Durham is in critical condition but doctors are hopeful. All other injured Americans are recovering.
