$5 million elderly housing and nursing complex proposed
Maple Heights firm North Summit Ohio Regional Health Care Corp presented Elyria officials with plans to buy 60 acres on Route 113 for a combined elderly housing complex and skilled nursing facility. The project envisions 150 to 200 apartments and 90 nursing beds, with lifetime occupancy and monthly fees, to be financed by tax exempt bonds and potentially expanded to 600 units if demand grows. A review meeting with council president Richard P. Seward and James Shepherd is slated for Aug. 29.

Nordson delays Betterway donation decision in Amherst
Nordson Foundations distribution committee postponed a vote on funding to buy a 247 acre Huntington Township farm for Betterway Inc of Elyria. About 75 residents caravaned to Nordson HQ to oppose funding, saying offenders would threaten residents and property as Betterway holds an option to buy the Alex Malik farm through Sept. 17.
