First driving test blends agony and ecstasy

A South Amherst driving license exam gathers anxious 16 to 18 year olds facing the Test. Tarnowski notes about 30 percent fail the driving or parking phase, while most girls cry on failure and boys endure with nerves. Mary Ann Hendrickson passed after a near mishap, and Debbie Gerhart eased through with her mother’s support. Ronnie, 17, struggled but predicted most students pass first time. Keefa Beckham finally passed after prior flunks, calling the moment calm and freeing.

James Milton Turner born into bondage to famed educator and diplomat

The St. Louis born abolitionist James Milton Turner was sold at a slave auction for $50 as a child. He rose to prominence as an educator, state leader in Missouri, and among America's first black diplomats. Turner led Negro education efforts in Missouri, helped found Lincoln Institute, served as consul general to Liberia, then advocated for black and mixed tribes’ land settlements, and died in Ardmore in 1915 after a railroad accident.

Black holes and the fate of dying stars

Astrophysicists explore how stars die and may become black holes in space. Theories include small hot remnants, collapsing stars forming pulsars, and potential supernova explosions like the Crab Nebula in 1054. If nuclei fail to stop collapse, a vast gravity draw could birth a new universe from a giant black hole.
