Area to receive King memorial scholarships total 2600
The Loran County Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Memorial Committee awards at least $2,600 in scholarships to 13 students from Elyria Lorain Oberlin and Berea. Awards announced for a 4 p.m. ceremony at Second Baptist Church with WABQ’s George Abram as MC.

New London Opens New Water Treatment Plant
New London adds a new water treatment plant placed in service on August 14. Water is pumped from the plant during daytime hours while telemetering equipment is installed, with full 24 hour pumping to follow in about one to two weeks. Residents reported a chlorine taste during daytime withdrawals as lines were being laid.

Four youngsters in Vermilion organize a three day carnival to raise funds for muscular dystrophy research. The event runs next Monday to Wednesday from noon to 4 pm in backyards on Mapleview Drive. Free admission, sales of hotdogs popcorn lemonade soda and crafts. Games drawings prizes and a scavenger hunt planned.
