New York press strike drags on as Metro planned
New Yorkers enter another week without major dailies as talks remain deadlocked over pressroom crew sizes. A new paper, The New York Daily Metro, launches with an initial 400 000 to 500 000 copies, following City News, while The News World reports rising sales. A Medina store clerk, David Sherman, was abducted and found dead near Route 162 in Montville Township, with authorities probing robbery links. Federal mediator Kenneth Moffett called negotiations constructive but noted ongoing deadlock.
