Ridgeville man dies. former Elyrian charged with murder
Elyria police have arrested 42 year old Henry W. Thomas, formerly of Elyria, in connection with the fatal shooting of Barry Newhouse, 20, whose body was found in the basement of Lawrence Baumann's home in Henrietta Township. Newhouse died of a single gunshot wound to the neck. Thomas is charged with aggravated murder.

Second suspect nabbed in Elyria Savings Bank robbery
FBI agents arrested 26 year old Van Hasan of Detroit on a federal armed robbery warrant for the Aug five Elyria Savings and Trust branch he was found under mattresses in a Detroit residence and is to be extradited to Cleveland for arraignment. His brother Todd Hasan, 20, of Lorain, already faces obstruction of justice charges from the same case and was arrested Aug ten. FBI says no other suspects remain.

Father seeks custody of malnourished child heirs in Oberlin case

Fire Chief Bracik cleared. plans to retire by year end
Elyria Township trustees cleared Fire Chief George Bracik of misconduct allegations and said he will retire by year’s end. The decision ends a four month dispute with The Sirens, the department’s women’s auxiliary, over potential conflicts of interest. Prosecutor White said Bracik can legally serve as chief and trustee, but advised against it.
