FBI shot and wounded a hijacker aboard a United jet at Seattle-Tacoma Airport after he rode a bike with a rifle to Reno and seized a $2 million ransom. Marcus Sibley of Stateline, Nev., was captured. less than $1 million was paid, with 15 gold bricks also taken. The plane sat on the runway six hours as agents waited.
Eight alleged drug pushers were arrested in Lorain after four weeks of undercover work by the Metropolitan Enforcement Group of Lorain County. Suspects include Porfirio Madera and Esteban Reyes among others, with charges of illegal sale and possession of narcotics and related offenses. Warrants issued on MEG information. arrests occurred between 3 and 7 p.m. yesterday.
Nearly an inch of rain soaked Lorain County during thundershowers. A total of .94 inches added to August’s above average rainfall while 4.07 inches have fallen this month. A fierce Oberlin fire gutted the shoe store and repair shop on 34 South Main with about 40 firemen battling the two story blaze. The owner Sam Orlando said he was selling the building and nearby Oberlin News Tribune offices sustained smoke and water damage with no injuries reported. Lightning was suspected by some officials as the cause.
