One Killed Two Injured as Car Hits Bridge Underpass
An Elyria man, Donald Lee Dobbins Jr., 26, died at the scene when his 1968 convertible struck the railroad underpass center post on East Bridge Street at 6:25 a.m. Two passengers, Clinton Slone, 26, and another, were seriously or critically injured and hospitalized with chest, head, and multiple injuries. A witness said the car approached at 55 to 60 mph with no apparent braking. The trio had been playing cards at a Davis residence before leaving for work.

Governor Gilligan signals state job cuts plan
Ohio Governor John J. Gilligan was to announce in a 4:30 p.m. statewide address a series of cuts in state services. Jobless rate hits 8 3 percent in Lorain County
Lorain County's July unemployment rose to 8.3 percent from 6.6 percent in June, with about 8,000 people unemployed.
