Grafton Escapees Admit Burglaries Here

Two Grafton Honor Camp escapees, William Goodfellow and Edward Lyons, confessed to burglaries in Elyria and an automobile theft after being arrested in Athens Ohio. They admitted breaking into Crystal Clear Cleaners and a Shell station on Cleveland Street, and stealing a car owned by Dave Howells. They abandoned the car near Zanesville after the crimes Sunday night. Detainer warrants were sent to Athens.

The 98th Lorain County Fair requires exhibitors to file entries by 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 22. A numbered card will be issued by the secretary to entry owners. One woman passenger and 24 crew members of the burning Danish freighter Else Basses were rescued off the Newfoundland coast by the British vessel Cornerbrook. The freighter still burned as Cornerbrook, a 5,000 ton pulp carrier, continued to port at Cornerbrook with the rescued group.

New Bridge On Fuller Road Approved By County Commissioners

Construction of a new two lane bridge on Fuller road to replace the old structure was approved with a pedestrian walk. Estimated total cost about 80 839 dollars, funded by a force account with the county engineering department. The Ohio Bridge Co of Cambridge will build the center pier and bridge proper for 63 432 dollars, while approaches and abutments cost 18 764 dollars. Easement payments of 350 dollars to Clarence and Maxine Smith and 275 dollars to Louis and Pearl Barkas were approved.

Hospital Ship Haven Sails From Korea With 130 Repatriates

INCHON Korea A Navy spokesman said the ship Haven carrying 130 sick and wounded American repatriates will sail at 1 30 pm Wednesday. It will stop at Yokosuka Japan for 190 Navy patients then head to San Francisco. The voyage to Japan lasts about three days and to the West Coast about 12 days. This marks the Haven as the first hospital ship to return repatriates to the United States. Most evacuees are transported by air when not needing urgent care.

Warmee Named Lorain GOP Mayor Candidate

Walter B. Warmee is the Republican candidate for mayor of Lorain, selected by the Lorain City Republican Central Committee to fill a vacancy after X. Firelands School District seeks levy vote on November ballot

Firelands Local School District filed with the Lorain Board of Elections to place a three mill, five year operating levy on the November ballot. The levy would be a renewal replacing levies from the old districts, and would first show the tax duplicate of 1954, as existing levies expire. Ruth Fox, acting clerk of the board, stated the decision came from the board of education.
