TV hits prove popularity not just needs or motives
A study of shows like I Love Lucy The Beverly Hillbillies Bewitched The Cosby Show The Golden Girls and Murder She Wrote argues that top rankings reflect a mix of timing escapism family values talent and humor rather than underlying unfulfilled desires The piece notes Hotel followed Dynasty and Angela Lansbury's talent drives Murder She Wrote while Richards on Hillbillies stemmed from optimism of the era and comedy rather than deep financial fantasy
