Artificial reefs planned for Lake Erie to attract fish

About 3,000 tons of rubble were dumped into Lake Erie near Lakewood last week, with 25,000 more planned over two years to create the lake’s first artificial reefs. The project aims to attract walleye and sport fish to the Central Basin, funded by local and state groups and coordinated by Ohio State University Sea Grant. Reefs will be placed away from shipping lanes, built from clean concrete and rock, and will be accessible to small-boat anglers, potentially boosting local tourism and economy.
