Elyria Catholic Player Les Rivera in Critical Condition
Elyria Catholic High School senior Les Rivera collapsed during a Saturday intra squad scrimmage and is on life support at Elyria Memorial Hospital. A 342 hour operation to remove brain hematomas was performed by Dr. George H. Hoke late Saturday afternoon. Rivera, 17, remained conscious briefly, then entered shock after loss of feeling in his legs. his father, a physician, attended him and he remains in critical condition after the surgery.

Elyria police charged 30-year-old Gregory Edwards with aggravated murder in the death of 70-year-old Margaret Rourke at her West Broad Street apartment. Avon Lake teens die in car crash on Jaycox Road
Two 16 year old Avon Lake boys were killed and a third seriously injured when their southbound 1978 Chevette left a rain slick curve on Jaycox Road struck a tree. Howard Hill and Robert Keane died at the scene while J Wesley Treece was hospitalized in serious condition with concussion and multiple fractures. Funeral plans set by Burmeister Funeral Home.
