NCAA threatens to expel rebels over CFA NBC deal
NCAA Council says infraction proceedings will start against any member school that joins the College Football Association contract with NBC Sports worth 180 million dollars. The CFA includes 61 major powers and most conferences except the Big Ten and Pac Ten, and the four year pact was signed last Saturday. The contract will be voted on August 21 in Atlanta by CFA members, not by the 61 coaches. If a member appears on CFA telecasts, penalties for NCAA rules infractions could follow, an NCAA official said. The council acted on attorneys’ recommendations, with expeditious handling expected. The Salishan Lodge meeting echoes the CFA launch in 1973, amid a push for a football super conference after revenue-sharing proposals were rejected.
