Race and Identity Clash Over Jewish Status

A heated debate across Israel and the United States centers on whether being Jewish is a religion, race, or nationality. Israel records Jewish status on ID cards, sparking protests from orthodox Jews who cite Talmudic tests. In the U S Zionists push Jewish nationalism, while non Zionists warn of renewed anti Semitism. A Jewish religious society argues Judaism is a universal religion, not nationality, challenging secular Jews who accept no religious creed. Ultra orthodox concerns include gender norms and Sabbath rules, yet other Jews urge focusing on universal values of justice and ethics.
