Elyria considers a new ambulance firm for city service by December with Lorain Area Ambulance under review. Proposals due Sept. 19, hearings Sept. 25, and a contract extension to Nov 30 to allow negotiations. Public Safety Committee discusses emergency unit counts and directory listing issues for new firms.
Lorain harbormaster Robert Jaycox warns the Miss Majestic excursion boat may be sold and laid up unless winter storage can be arranged within two weeks. The 72 foot charter boat is docked at West Municipal Pier amid parking conflicts and pressure to vacate. Jaycox eyes former Amship yards in Spitzer-Great Lakes premises for temporary storage, awaiting a call to discuss options.

Lorain County farmers donated 10 000 bales of hay to Union County South Carolina growers facing scarce feed. Robert Garner and Leroy Ivey praised the help as essential, noting Garner’s 300 acre farm and 73 cattle with his wife Minny Lou relaying questions.
Elyria firefighters patrol three homes in morning bat removal calls on the emergency line. A bat was found killed at a Washington Avenue residence while two others were sighted in kitchens on Kenyon Avenue and Fifth Street. Firefighters use gloves and tennis rackets, joking that backhands help drive bats away.
