Ohio students relying on state guaranteed loans for the 1972 73 academic year may face delays of up to ten weeks as the higher education act signed by President Nixon revamps the Student Aid Program. The Ohio Loan Commission notes new requirements including a financial needs statement and extended processing times from Evanston and Berkeley. Independent students earning 5000 dollars or less may still receive quicker aid, while families with more than one college student remain eligible but face longer waits.
Lorain County Community College reports only about 25 students a year qualify for government guaranteed loans. Boguski notes delays from missing forms and local banks unwilling to issue loans. Oberlin College says new rules cut eligible students to about 10 percent, with banks rarely approving non guaranteed loans.
