The Chronicle-Telegram will publish daily pollen counts at 9 am beginning Monday. Ernest G. Bartha, city chemist, explains a 0 to 10 range means no effects while over 300 affects everyone. A count equals about 3.6 grains per air unit and rises on windy days. The first frost stops pollen production.
Coast Guard aircraft hovered over survivors from the spe swept tug Sea Wolf about 950 miles northeast of Honolulu. A C130 reached the scene and spotted crew members in the water waving lights as cutters Wachuset and Ponchartrain headed toward the area. The Mayday reported fire on board fuel on fire and the crew of 12 possibly dwindling while surface ships closed in.
Reports from Peking describe large scale Red Chinese troop exercises along the China Vietnam frontier and the Formosa Strait. U.S. officials note Chinese guerrilla manuals found among Congo rebels and possible outside guidance, but deny any American force plans in Congo.
President Antonio Segni, 73, who suffered a stroke eight days ago and slipped into a coma, neared death as doctors reported rapid worsening through the night. Premier Aldo Moro retraced to Rome by special train after Moro had been vacationing at Ponte Gardena.
A U S helicopter crash on Black Virgin Mountain 50 miles northwest of Saigon killed two U S soldiers and injured five others during an airlift to a special counter guerrilla camp. The crash raises U S fatalities to 268 since January 1941 with 182 in combat. The crash site was cleared by another helicopter. In Phong Dinh Province 14 troops were killed in a communist attack and 12 Reds fell to loyal forces at Rach Gia. James Killen said 800 American ATD workers would join a rice roots campaign to bolster rural resistance, up 30 to 50 percent by year end.
The St Olav weekly backed a proposal to award Martin Luther King the Nobel Peace Prize for 1964. Initial backing came from Vaar Kirke with support from Arbeid erbladet. The prize ceremony is set for Oslo University next December, with the Nobel Committee usually meeting in October to choose the winner. A Nobel Institute spokesman said King’s name is among those under consideration.
A temporary restraining order was issued by Lorain County Common Pleas Judge Le Roy F Kelly at the request of Ohio Edison Co to curb a strike picket line by Local 1194 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Pickets allegedly blocked a company driveway and access roads during the strike.
Congress moves a $3 million addition to a Lorain harbor project, raising total federal funding to $9,872,000 and pushing completion to 61 percent. The $3 million breakdown covers bridge replacement, outer breakwater construction, design, and administration. A June House bill was revised after Senate friction, with final passage awaiting President Johnson's signature.
