Imitation in infant speech and early development
Dr Garry C Myers explains that infants imitate sounds mainly through parental imitation and responsive praise. Early speech arises from random babbling reinforced by caregiver smiles, with independent imitation developing later. Mothers’ tone and high pitched speech aid attention, while prompt, non-English exposure may be taxing but is common. Two pamphlets on punishments, rewards, and fear offered for ten cents each.
