Judge Elbert H. Gary longtime head of the United States Steel Corporation died at his New York home at 3 40 am. He would have turned 78 on October 7. Official notice came from Nathan Miller attorney for the Steel Corp. Gary had been in poor health for weeks with chronic myelocarditis.

Ten Year Old Girl Injured In Auto Crash

A ten year old girl, Charlotte Marra, suffered injuries in a two-vehicle crash on Hazel Street. Police report Steve Horvath, driving a white car, turned left into oncoming traffic, colliding with Ray Weltars’s vehicle from Akron. Other passengers included Clarissa Thweat, Mary Raber, and RoE Bennet. Horvath agreed to settle all damages.

Hudnutt to Buy Burke Interest in Chronicle Telegram

An agreement sets A C Hudnutt to take control of the Chronicle Telegram on September 1, with Burke relinquishing active role. Burke will run Santa Ana Register in California, selling to Loval H Bletziéb. Santa Ana, population about 30,000, lies 30 miles south of Los Angeles in the citrus belt.

Six Die as Tenement Fire Ravages Montreal

Six bodies were recovered from the ruins of a Montreal tenement after a blazing fire and a powerful explosion. The victims include Emma McDonald 30 James McDonald 79 Gordon McDonald 14 Clayton McDonald 16 Vincent Colfielo 38 and an unidentified man. Four others were seriously injured and hospitalized.

Two County Road Bids Opened For Sprague Project

Mass arrest in Ohio mine disorder near St Clairsville

Eastern Ohio saw new arrests in a series of mine disorders with Don Fiott and Theodore Zorick charged with assault with intent to kill and rioting. Five other union miners and two women had earlier pleaded not guilty and were released on bonds. A separate Hocking Valley demonstration near the Lubing mine west of Athens drew several hundred miners before dispersing at dawn. Fifteen deputies guarded the operation as Lick Run mine near Nelsonville reported stoppage.

Spero ends hunger strike with two cups of beef tea

Bus Brakes Fail in Steep Descent Injuring Twenty Three

A motor bus bound for Brunswick plunged down a mountain grade near Woeverton after brakes failed injuring 23 people including six in critical condition. The bus and driver were injured travelers said. The Baltimore and Ohio railroad tracks were involved in the crash.
