In Fairbanks Alaska the plane was long overdue and unreported since crossing the North Pole in a howling storm at 6 40 a m EST Friday. Best estimates said fuel exhausted by 3 a m EST today and likely down on the frozen tundra. Six men were aboard. Last word was the plane flying over the pole at 6 40 a m EST with one motor failed and heavy headwinds. The craft left Moscow at 11 13 p m EST Thursday and carried about 3333 gallons of gasoline. Weather was severe with temperatures 35 degrees below zero and barometric winds up to 190 kilometers an hour.

SHANGHAT Aug. 14 Dr. Robert Reischauer of Princeton University died in the county hospital from injuries in today’s bombardment in front of the Palace hotel. He was a native of Newton Mass.
