Fewer West Nile cases in Ohio this year
Ohio health officials report fewer West Nile virus cases than expected due to rainy weather. Mosquitoes thrive in dry conditions, helping birds and mosquitoes limit human cases. One 60-year-old Butler County man died in July, the state's only human victim this year. Ohio's 2003 case tally was 108 with eight deaths, and 2002 saw 299 probable and 142 confirmed cases with 31 deaths.
