Falls shootings involve same man in two incidents

Olmsted Falls police said Raymond Klesta 41 was the man shot by an officer Tuesday after threatening self harm with a shotgun in his brother’s yard. Det. Alex Bakos fired, Klesta died later. Police linked the case to a previous 1984 shooting involving Klesta and the same responding chief Jeff Rice.

Lorain official found not guilty in falsification case

After a day of testimony in Lorain Municipal Court eight jurors spent under 30 minutes deliberating before acq uitting William Desvari chief building official of falsification. Prosecutors said he omitted past criminal convictions on a 2003 job application. Desvari testified he paid $200 to an attorney to handle the matter years ago and believed it resolved. His attorney claimed a political vendetta and questioned the police probe. Desvari expressed relief and intent to serve the public.

Anger and pensions drive RTI steelworkers protest

Dozens of former RTI workers rally across from the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati after layoffs and pension denials in the RTI bankruptcy. They demand the pensions they earned, while the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp takes their case for the first time since 1974. Elyria police began a 30 day task force patrol on the South Side at 10:30 p.m. It started busy then cooled as officers in an undercover car monitored a known drug zone. Officers watched a suspect who appeared to be holding drugs and tried to guide him back toward the alley with reinforcements.

Migrants recount deadly sea crossing to Puerto Rico

In Nagua Dominican Republic a migrant said over 40 people died during a two week sea voyage toward Puerto Rico. Survivors reported passengers lacked food water and some drank breast milk while others were thrown overboard after a woman refused to share milk. A doctor said cannibalism was reported among survivors.
