Labor Leaders Warn Protest May Spread Across Nation
American Federation of Labor leaders warned President Roosevelt that labor protests against the WPA security wage may spread nationwide and threaten the four billion dollar work relief program. They aimed to tie up fifty million in federal projects with a strike of fifteen thousand and ninety workers as WPA officials said a New York strike had collapsed with under a thousand from a pool of one hundred thousand. The AFL chief said nationwide labor will defy the work-or-starve ultimatum, while Green urged transferring WPA construction to the PWA and wage scales differ by locality. A second drive for a 100 percent walkout on New York WPA projects involving about one hundred thousand workers was launched by the Central Trades and Labor Council, with strike votes planned for office and common laborers.

Ashland Ohio superintendent B Leslie Bowsher was appointed state director of education by Gov. Davey, to a four year term effective Aug. 1 8. He will resign as president of the Kent State University board of trustees. Dr B Skinner’s term expired July 14 and he stayed on a month. Dietrich of Bucyrus named potential assistant director. Arrest Clears Up Three Robberies
