Volak Named Lorain Fire Chief After Tests and Suit
After nine months and a legal fight, Albert Volak is certified as the top candidate for Lorain fire chief. The Civil Service Commission ranked Volak first of four, despite a lawsuit from runner up Richard Shlapack over an efficiency rating dispute and a later retest. Final scores left Volak at 102 with Hupp 98.7, Dore 93.3, and Poprock 92. He will likely take command after the suspension period for former Chief Joseph Pribanic, who was sentenced in a related theft in office case.
