Proposal limits warranty claims on mobile homes and adds post delivery checks
The report proposes excluding warranty coverage for issues caused by transport and setup of mobile homes, with manufacturer post delivery inspections required. Warrantied units would have records kept to show service quality, and brief questionnaires would accompany warranties to track defects and consumer satisfaction. Estimated price rise 100 to 125 dollars per unit, with net benefits claimed to exceed costs. Separately, the government will end federal approval of structural standards for prefabricated housing on a trial basis to affect low income housing.

The Commerce Department promotes dollar-denominated travelers checks, a program begun in 1979 by the US Travel Service with American Co. BankAmerica and Citicorp funding multilangual flyers. The aim is to boost dollar use abroad and in the US, while aiding travelers and supporting the U.S. services transactions account.

Utilities using waste heat to grow shellfish
Utilities exploit plant waste heat for aquaculture. Long Island Lighting Co. uses warm effluent at Northport to hatch and grow oysters, reviving Long Island blue point stocks. Flowers Oyster Co. and Long Island Oyster Farms hatch with similar tech, supplying about half the local crop. Other utilities, like Public Service Electric Co. in New Jersey, test warm-water farms for trout and catfish below Trenton, aiming for fresh trout and canned catfish.
