Union push aims to organize Lorain County workers
United Steelworkers of America has months long efforts to unionize Lorain County government staff. County Commissioner Jeresmo Keron notes little discussion but does not object. About 1,200 employees exist with only 30 bridgeworkers in a union, as letters invite pledge cards for bargaining power and benefits like longevity pay and life insurance. Capone cites positive response as departments are polled one by one. A USWA local already represents about 250 city employees in Lorain.
