Elyria Pioneers face rebuilding as 1980 season nears
Elyria High's Pioneers, coming off a 10-0 season, enter 1980 with heavy graduation losses. Coach Terry Dean reports only nine lettermen back, two on offense, and a defense needing new leaders. Key returnees include Mark Noe, Tom Sabo, Brent Binkley, Tim Smith, and kicker Andy Volney. Offensive questions center on quarterback and running back depth, with Dill and Scott as potential backs and Haddox or Dill vying for QB. The team opens Aug 29 at home against Toledo Scott and plays a stiff schedule in the Buckeye Conference.

West Wolverines rely on potential as new era begins
Elyria West football enters fall with new white pants and brown jerseys but a green hue of youth. Coach Bill Hewitt, in his fifth season, stresses potential amid a small, inexperienced squad with one returning back in Robert Sampson. Strong cornerbacks, a rebuilt line, and a depth of running backs shape a plan as Hewitt aims to convert potential into growth through a Power I attack and a competitive, hungry roster led by Sampson, Wright, Dickerson, Taylor, and Starks.
