Satellite solar output shows small but climate affecting fluctuations
Washington scientists report NASA data from the Solar Maximum Mission indicates sun radiation output has varied up to 0.2 percent in recent months. Physicist Richard C. Willson notes fluctuations tied to sunspot activity, with potential short term weather effects and long term climate implications if trends persist.

Americans oppose plan for giant orbiting solar satellites
A year long survey by the Citizens' Energy Project for the Energy Department found 85 percent of 412 respondents against launching huge satellites to collect solar power. Only 3 percent saw potential electrical and national pride benefits. The study notes near unanimous negative sentiment among educators, officials, activists, and citizens. The Energy Department is evaluating the results in a three year feasibility study with a November full report planned. The concept envisions 60 rectangular arrays of photovoltaic cells orbiting 22 500 miles above the equator to track Earth's rotation.
