In the final filing hour three candidates Matthew J. Fortman Robert V. Schumar and Myron Averbook joined the Elyria Board of Education race to vie for three four year terms. They face incumbents B I Ohlemacher R G Taylor and Worth a Fauver as two seats remain. Fortman a National Tube employee active in Knights of Columbus has three children and lives at 241 Ninth Street Averbook tied to Elyria Furniture active in the Junior Chamber of Commerce and resides at 315 Fairlawn Avenue Schumar announced yesterday with other filings from Lorain County include Carpenter Grott Thomas Rothgery McGill Knoble Hyster Jones Snell Hecock Bachman Hite Werner Glover Kachure Smith Glorioso. Two seats to be filled from five nominees.

Bicycle Rider Hurt In Backing Truck Crash
Ronald Resar a nine year old resident of 340 Eighth Street was treated at Elyria Memorial Hospital after being knocked from his bicycle on Seventh street by a truck backing from a driveway. The driver was H F Haas of LaGrange road according to a police report.

Lorain County commissioners review a letter from M A Melia representing the United Steel Workers of America CIO asking to cut the Lorain Avenue bridge operators from 44 to 40 hours weekly. Nine regular operators currently earn 300 dollars monthly. Melia says reduction would require adding another operator.

Arraigned for Theft of Metal in City Plant Case
General Brown at 22 Woodford Avenue and Pete Rutledge at 14 Woodford Avenue were arraigned before Mayor Henry W. Bronze Star Awarded To Marine From Elyria
Pfc. Philip E. Hahn USMC of Elyria received the Bronze Star in a Norfolk ceremony. His citation notes heroic actions on 15 March 1951 in Korea as a rocket launcher gunner, exposing himself to heavy fire to destroy a mortar position and keep his platoon advancing. Hahn also holds a Purple Heart from Chosin Reservoir and wears the Korean Service Medal with three stars, along with other honors.
