Truck Driver Escapes Serious Injury In Oil Drum Accident

Keen Interest In Contest For Mayor In Elyria Primaries
Elyria voters head to the polls to pick Republican mayoral and city council nominees among six mayoral hopefuls including incumbent Leonard Smith. Council-at-large and ward contests appear on the slate with 11,500 eligible voters and turnout expected around one third. Murray Ridge School Will Not Reopen
The Murray Ridge School in Elyria Township will not reopen this fall after the State Department of Education refused to include it in the list of schools approved under the Ohio School Foundation Program. The two room Murray Ridge building with 45 students will close, saving an estimated 4500 a year for township taxpayers, as students transfer to Lake Avenue and Markler schools where enrollments will rise and generate additional state funds. Teachers will be reassigned to other Elyria Township schools for the coming year.

Two Ely fires cause considerable losses this week end
Fires in Ely resulted in losses of hundreds of dollars. The largest blaze destroyed a two car garage and two automobiles at the rear of Mrs. Agnes Novak’s 554 Turner Street home, discovered by a neighbor at 5 a.m. The cause is undetermined but may be a short circuit. Mrs Novak cannot estimate exact loss. The Novak car was not insured. A second fire damaged Frank J. Dombrosky’s home at 153 Erie Street on Saturday night.

Tragic Weekend Crash on North Ridge Road Involves Lorain Youths
A car carrying Albert Greenfield 21 and Frank Dallas 20 from Lorain collided with a southbound Wheeling and Lake Erie freight train at a North Ridge road crossing at 2 25 am Sunday. Greenfield suffered pelvic fracture and possible skull injury while Dallas and Steve Dallas 21 sustained internal injuries. The trio worked in National Tube Company pipe mill, shift 3 pm to 11 pm. Frank Dallas likely to be released. Steve Dallas hospitalized in Lorain. The crash marks the most serious of several weekend accidents in the county with two additional girls injured on bicycles and a 36 year old woman dead from a Vermilion area crash earlier.
