Iraq and Iran face tense harbor conflict amid tanker attack
Reports say Iraq bombed a tanker near Kharg Island triggering the tanker war in the Persian Gulf. The Greek owned Friendship L. Henk Drenth was hit, with 24 miles south of Kharg Island cited, while salvage tugs and a fire control were reported. Nine Pakistanis and fifteen Greeks aboard were unharmed. The U S said it would deploy minesweeping helicopters to the Gulf of Suez to aid Red Sea shipping amid ongoing mine attacks claimed by Tehran Radio and linked to Islamic Jihad.
