Elyria Red Cross fund far from goal in disaster appeal
Mrs. Courtney Kirby reports the Elyria Red Cross disaster fund has only 260 dollars raised toward a 2000 dollar quota. Of that total 212.50 has been sent to the Ely chapter offices in the Masonic Temple. Collectors at Capitol and Rivoli theatres gathered 47.50 over the weekend. Spencer 16 year old Charles Miller of South Main street is in Akron Children's hospital with bulbar poliomyelitis. Initially diagnosed as pneumonia, paralysis of the throat and diaphragm followed when swallowing failed. His mother says condition is fair. In Cleveland, four year old Rhonda Runkle died after being struck by two automobiles near her home.

Wooster college begins plans for a 50th anniversary celebration marking the rebuilding after a devastating fire. A nine member executive committee including city and county leaders will oversee arrangements. The campus previously had only one classroom building when the fire wiped it out on December 11, 1901.
Seniors Learn Free Enterprise How It Works
Elyria high school seniors from public and parochial schools will join the Junior Achievement program this fall. The Kiwanis Club launches a nationwide plan to teach youth about owning and operating a manufacturing plant with local sponsor support. Teen groups form junior companies meeting weekly for two hours to plan production sales and finance with adult advisers. Each company may sell up to 100 dollars in stock at 50 cents a share, five shares per person, to fund their venture.

Ridgway Rejects Resuming Korean Talks Over Zone Neutrality
Gen. Matthew Ridgway refused to resume cease-fire talks with North Korea until the Communists guarantee that armed troops will stay outside the Kaesong conference zone. He warned the talks would break off if neutrality is violated again. The Chinese Communist radio accused U S forces of multiple violations in Kaesong and nearby areas.
