Atlantis tests edge of space tether electricity trial
Atlantis astronauts probe a satellite tether experiment above Earth 184 miles up, aiming to generate electricity via a 1,100-pound satellite connected by a thin fiber wire. The crew prepared to release the satellite if danger arose while scientists monitor up to 5,000 volts as current travels from satellite to shuttle.
