Elyria Distance Classic Nears Start At LCCC Campus
At Lorain County Community College the Third Annual Elyria Distance Classic unfolds with 210 entrants already registered for the 10 kilometer race. Pre race signup runs from 3 15 p m to 5 p m with a 3 dollar entry fee and waivers required. Last year’s champion Mike Foley, who finished 502 in 1979, is among early signups. The course begins on campus grass and finishes at the LCCC College Center Building.

A severe thunderstorm toppled a tree onto the living room of Joel Dusek's new Grafton residence, narrowly missing three family members. Dusek, his son Bryan, and daughter Ginney escaped to the basement moments before the crash. no one was hurt but damage is estimated at about 40,000 dollars. Neighbors aided with securing the home and motel lodging was arranged for the family.

Iranians face deportation after weekend arrests
Federal officials said nearly 200 Iranians detained after July demonstrations in Washington will begin deportation hearings on August 11.
