Lifeboat Heroism Between Uncle And Nephew On Sea Voyage

William Quinlan sacrificed himself to save his 18 year old nephew Dave Lucas during a hurricane tossed trip to the Galapagos. With only 50 ounces of water and 30 ounces of candy, Quinlan chose to go overboard and swim away to certain death after writing a farewell to his wife and children. Lucas, rescued two days later, returned to San Diego to reunite with his mother and stepfather and recount the ordeal on the dock.

Fanatically religious husband drives family tragedy

In Salt Lake City a distraught widow identified as Rachel David hurled seven children from a ninth floor hotel balcony before leaping to her death. Four children died. three remained critically injured. David and her husband Manuel, a self-styled religious leader, had lived in local hotels while police investigate their deaths and the couple’s sect. Witness Felix Palacios described the events as bystanders shouted warnings during the morning rush hour.

Bomb suspect linked to school bombing in Beachwood

Police said George J. Cicero 48 Warrensville Heights admitted involvement in a $100,000 bombing at Fairmount Elementary Beachwood. Authorities found eight dynamite cases in his store and three bombs in his apartment along with a list of local schools.

Soviet court fines US reporters over libel retractions

A Moscow court fined Craig Whitney of The New York Times and Harold Piper of the Baltimore Sun $72.50 each for missing an earlier retraction deadline and ordered five more days to print corrections. Judge Leo Almazov warned of possible measures, including withdrawal of accreditation or confiscation of property, if they do not pay. The papers plan to pay court costs instead of retracting the articles.
