Major Vietnamese Offensive Emerges Near Phnom Penh

Thousands of North Vietnamese and Viet Cong troops launched a broad offensive aimed at capturing key Cambodian strongpoints north and northwest of Phnom Penh. Heavy attacks stretched from 35 miles northwest of the capital to 80 miles north, with Kompong Thom bearing the heaviest blows as AC47 gunships halted assaults.

White drops plant option at Fruehauf Avon Lake

White Motor Co of Cleveland dropped its option to purchase Fruehauf Corp's former Avon Lake trailer plant. Fruehauf officials said two corporations expressed interest in the facility and the move to relocate parts and operations could reduce about 65 of the remaining 125 employees by Oct 1. The asking price is around $7 million for the 1 million square feet on 165 acres.

Grafton boy struck crossing Street by car

A five year old Grafton boy Ricky Boros son of Mr and Mrs Allen J Boros of 35 Robson Road was injured seriously when struck by a car on Poplar Street Ely officials report the child was crossing with playmates near Marseilles Avenue at about 11:16 am. The car was driven east on Poplar Street by James O Stock 19 of 319 Georgia Ave Elyna. He was treated at Elyta Memorial Hospital for head injuries.

FDA warns castor oil bottles mislabeled with turpentine

The FDA said some two ounce bottles of Wi Jon Hospital brand castor oil actually contain turpentine and could be fatal to a child. It urged consumers to discard or verify contents and warned the distribution extent is unknown.

One dead as New York subway fire injures 53

A subway tunnel fire near Bowling Green station in Manhattan's financial district killed one rider and injured 53, with passengers escaping through rear car doors and catwalks. Mayor Lindsay demanded a full MTA report while praising the evacuating crew and citing radio communication failures as a key issue.

Car crashes into Manhattan apartment collapses floors

A large car sped onto a sidewalk in lower Manhattan and plowed into a 100yearold apartment building at 137 Forsythe St. A support beam sheared and five floors partially collapsed. The driver died instantly. Eight residents were injured, with Beth Israel and Bellevue hospitals confirming eight treated. Fire, police and medical crews searched the wreckage.

Luxaire Pact Expires Prompting Immediate Strike

Workers of Local 6985 United Steelworkers struck Luxaire Inc at 12:01 a.m. today after their contract expired. District rep Pavlich met with Luxaire personnel director Schmittgen. union president Harold A. Smith declined comment. If unresolved today or tomorrow, about 370 workers will stay off the job Monday as the plant remains closed. Luxaire makes furnaces and air conditioners.
