SpaceX aims for Mars flight with Red Dragon as early as 2018
SpaceX founder Elon Musk announced via Twitter plans to send a Dragon capsule to land on Mars, naming the mission Red Dragon and stating no astronauts will accompany it on the first test. He envisions future crewed trips later and aims to reuse rockets to cut costs. NASA will provide technical support in exchange for data from Red Dragon descent and landing.
