Union dispute delays city recall plans for inmate program

The city laid off six workers in 2009 after landscaping work, and AFSCME Local 277 president Rick Rogala says recalls cannot proceed while the recall protection remains. The Streets Department will handle duties until all laid off workers are back, with Shelley Co. set to hand the project back in about four weeks after essential grading and replanting are completed.

Local radio host LES Szekely to transition to teaching role

LES Szekely announced he will leave WEOL AM 930 on Aug 23 to take a full time teaching position at Westlake High School after a career mixing radio hosting and acting. He previously taught at Lakeland Community College and Notre Dame College, and has stage credits including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. His future on air plans remain undecided.

Veteran efforts honor fallen Ohio soldiers with headstones
