Ohio House votes to kill all legislation imposing new taxes including gasoline sales cigaret admissions and utility taxes as sine die adjournment ends the regular session. The Senate moved on salary bills for state officials and other measures including 45 hour week for women and hospital care provisions.

Sixty Elyria firms with 25 years or more in business were listed by the Chamber of Commerce for a quarter century dinner at First M. E. Church on May 13. Henry P. Boynton will speak, with J. B. Johnson reporting on the U S Chamber meeting in Washington and the Elyria High School choir to perform. The list includes Red Mill, Inc. tracing back to 1824, and many longtime firms such as Ebert Drug Store, Western Union, New York Central Railroad, and Elyria Savings and Trust, among others with 25 year plus histories.

Children Aid Checks Sent Out by County Department

Checks totaling 5949 are being sent to assist 470 children 16 years old or younger. This month’s total increases by 349 from last month as 464 children in 171 families received aid earlier. Average per child sits near 12 dollars, totaling about 15 with private income, budgeted by Miss Doris Todd.

Mortgage Burning Ceremony For Elyria Legion Held Tomorrow

The Elyria Post No 12 American Legion plans a mortgage burning on the Court House steps to celebrate the $60,000 Ohio Legion home. A life size William Ely statue and other donors will be featured as National Commander Harry W Colmery arrives for receptions at Oberlin College and Elyria. The event includes a noon Oberlin reception, a public burn of the last $1,000 mortgage payment, speeches by Hewitt Webber and Tom Cook, and talks by Ida Hanson.
