Paralyzed Vietnam Vet Leads Elyria VFW Post

Roger A Jackson, first Vietnam veteran to command Elyria VFW Post 1079, an Ohio unit with 1,570 members, drives a van with a Vietnam Class of 66 bumper sticker. Wounded two months into his tour, he was paralyzed from the waist down after a mortar attack near the DMZ. He recalls being evacuated to the hospital ship Repose and later to Japan for two operations.

Larry R Whitesel 36 of 126 Oak St punched an off duty police officer and his son after a delay at Polar Bear Ice Cream, 230 Cleveland St. The officer’s badge brought quick counterattack. the officer’s son was knocked down. Whitesel faced two counts of assault and was released on bond.
