Beawell exams show few pass to high school

Excerpted notes from our files trace April 27 1900 reports on rural district entrance tests for high school. Only 48 of 200 grade school students passed the Beawell examinations, with those failing invited to retake May 2. Passers gain township funded high school attendance. Nearby Elyria Lorain macadam road plans emerge with bids for Cotton and North Ridge road improvements.

Avon Alumni Card Party Well Attended

Avon April 27 The Avon Alumni Association reported a well attended card party in the auditorium with prizes in bridge pinochle and five hundred awarded to named winners. Music and entertainment marked an enjoyable evening as attendees praised the event.
