Fed may take more action to spur economy
Federal Reserve Chair Ben Bernanke left open the possibility of additional steps to boost growth and reduce unemployment while keeping inflation in check. After a two day policy meeting the Fed kept rates near zero through late 2014 and said the economy will grow moderately with risks from Europe’s debt crisis. They noted inflation rose mainly due to gasoline and that the pickup should be temporary. Bernanke said further bond purchases or other tools remain on the table if the economy weakens.
