Amherst football suit settles. youth awarded senior year credit
Cleveland accord ends federal dispute with Amherst Board of Education. James Lehman, a Marion L. Steele High School senior, will receive full credit for his final year on the football team after a five hour settlement talks led by U.S. District Judge William K. Thomas. Lehman, 17, had been dismissed from the squad following an Oct 29 absence for fitness and had claimed due process was lacking in his removal. The settlement appears to settle claims related to his varsity status and eligibility, with Lehman and his parents agreeing to terms after nearly five hours of courtroom discussions. The case is expected to affect extracurricluar activity dismissal procedures.

Speed limit signs go metric as US shifts to kilometers
The government plans a five year transition to metric highway signs with speed limits changing to kilometers. 40 mph becomes 64 kph, and limits nationwide will convert during 1978 and 90 day periods for overpass clearances. No dual labeling planned.
City considers easing red light right turn limits
City Council Public Safety and Environment committee discussed eliminating some notations that prohibit right turns on red at about half of the intersections. Chairman Felix J. Klimczak said allowing turns after stopping could reduce congestion and improve traffic flow during rush hours. The panel will study the proposal further, likely in June, under a 1975 state law requiring signs at eligible intersections.
