Davenport Watches Mississippi Crest On Near-Record Flood
In Davenport Iowa near downtown two pumps run as the Mississippi River edges toward a near record crest expected Tuesday night. Volunteers and National Guard build a 1200 foot clay and sandbag levee to protect downtown businesses as about 70 homes flooded locally and statewide damage tops 1100 homes. Governor Vilsack seeks federal aid while residents brace for possible higher water.
