Ike Says Vessel To Show Atom Peaceful Uses

President Eisenhower announced plans to build an atomic powered merchant ship to demonstrate the atom’s peaceful uses. The nuclear craft, similar to Nautilus, would travel vast distances without refueling, with construction to begin soon though costs and timing were not given. He urged Congress to fund the project and tied it to Tariff reductions and global peace against communism.

Storm Front Spends Fury In The East

A vast storm system sweeping from the Southwest to the Northeast brought heavy rains and deadly tornadoes. Four deaths were linked to an Alabama tornado with extensive property damage, while seven Midwest fatalities resulted from slick roads and heavy downpours. The storm waned but lingered over the Mississippi Valley to New England. Big 3 Ministers To Meet May 8

U S French and British foreign ministers will meet in Paris on May 8 to discuss concrete plans for a four power conference with the Soviet government. Western governments seek a just peaceful settlement and will consult German Chancellor Adenauer and other NATO leaders. Experts will meet in London beforehand to study issues for the talks.

Lorain Sets 18 Inoculation Centers For Polio Shots

Lorain will inoculate first and second graders at 18 centers led by the Ohio National Guard Armory starting 9 a.m. Wednesday. Dr. I C Riggin says doctors will handle school vaccine work. shots will continue through the week with second doses in May. Elyria pupils to get shots at 4 centers

Elyria schoolchildren with parental consent will receive the first of three polio vaccine inoculations before 9 a.m. Wednesday at four centers. First Inoculations Start Wednesday For 8,000 Pupils

Lorain County's Salk anti polio vaccine has arrived and 8 057 cc's will cover about 8 000 first and second graders for the initial inoculation. Elyria’s 1 737 cc’s are short but officials expect additional vaccine to arrive before the program begins Wednesday morning.

The Cleveland weather bureau issued the first warning at 4 42 p m and said the danger had passed at 9 10 p m as Northern Ohioans faced alerts for a tornado that never materialized.
