Milan shut 21 main roads with army and police to block Communist reinforcements after a clash days earlier that left a policeman dead and 24 injured. Rioters, chanting to mark liberation, faced gunfire and heavy police action in Loreto and Central Duomo squares.
Washington reports soft coal output expected to normalize today but federal labor experts fear a summer strike push by John L. Lewis before week’s end. Lewis’ contract with miners expires June 26 and a 60 day notice is required to reopen talks for 1948-49. Industry resistance could trigger a new walkout while pension disputes remain unsettled as miners resume work.
Partial clouds and warm temperatures in northeastern Ohio with continued heat this afternoon. Tonight turns cloudy and warm with showers late. Tuesday remains cloudy and warmer than normal followed by afternoon showers. Lows near 60 tonight and highs around 76 on Tuesday.

The B and O launches its new 4,500,000 car dock at Lorain Ohio with a Wednesday ceremony. A special B and O train will carry guests from Cleveland at 11 30 am to attend the 2 45 pm dedicatory address by Colonel J Monroe Johnson. Mrs Heath S Clark serves as sponsor and signals the start of operations. The facility links to the Black River ore dock, with capacity for 2,000 cars and 24 hour floodlit operation.
Evansville authorities planned to tow a section of the Ohio River to locate William Henderson, companion of Kentucky pre medical student Richard Gordon. Gordon's body was found in the river yesterday near Bowling Green. Henderson, also of Bowling Green, vanished with his car on April 12.
In Jerusalem and Tel Aviv the Irgun and the Haganah trade fire as Jaffa faces renewed assault after UN partition vote. Mortar bursts disrupt the Tel Aviv–Jaffa area with Arabs fleeing and streets tightened while Jeifa launches from Tel Aviv at dawn.
Reports say Korean demonstrations in the Kobe Osaka region were dispersed after clashes blamed on Communist agitation. About ten thousand Koreans were dispersed at Otome Park near Osaka Castle, as Allied authorities halted further protests. The Osaka incident followed a castle-backed demand for homage, tied to a historic figure. An allied order in Kobe limited further protests, with the U S army declaring a limited emergency in Japan.
Cleveland report notes the death of Rev Fr. Edmund C. Horne former president of John Carroll University. Fr. Horne, long associated with the university and with Philadelphia ties, passed away recently in Philadelphia after illness. funeral arrangements announced.
Burns told police two women ambushed him in the business district at night. One woman restrained him while the other rifled his pockets and stole his wallet containing $50. The incident occurred on the edge of the district last night.
Cleveland reports the first fil scale bond campaign since World War II launched in Ohio. Campaign leaders express confidence that the state will reach its 175 million dollar quota by the June 30 deadline.
A United Press report details a weekend of heavy traffic in Ohio due to warm weather. At least 14 people died in crashes and numerous others were injured across multiple counties including Portsmowth, Newark, Warren, Greenville, Mansfeld, and Lima, with victims aged from teens to seniors.
The body of Thomas H. Gilbert a Navy machinist is due to arrive in Elyria Tuesday afternoon. His funeral follows at Butler Funeral Home and St Marys Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery. He was born in Columbus Sept 23 1914 and lived in Elyria before enlisting in 1943. He survived by wife Margaret two sisters and a brother. Gilbert was killed in action on Iwo Jima April 16 1945 while serving with Bechtel Westinghouse Automotive Brake Company prior to enlistment. His body returned with 329 other servicemen aboard Army Transport Walter W. Senawank at Oakland March 22.

Seven Osborn View boys aged nine to 15 agreed to share payment of 1 4 damage to Mrs Herr’s home during Easter vacation. Judge William B. McAlister Jr of Greene County Juvenile Court said the youngsters invaded the home while the owner was absent, breaking windows tearing wallpaper and damaging doors and electrical fixtures.
A Illinois Central Sunchaser passenger train derailed after leaving the rails near Adamsville Alabama. About 30 injured and three killed, including engineer W. B. James and Emma Dahakte. A group of 27 young baseball players from Florida assisted in救援 efforts.

Firefighters confined a early morning fire at the American Clay Farming Co storage building where sat dust and white clay used in making burners burned. One firefighter, Park Chaney, was slightly injured by broken glass. The fire was contained by the fireproof structure.
Elyrian Lewis Francis age 22 of 121 Waverly Street suffered a fractured left arm when his car sideswiped a machine driven by Albert Charles of 223 State Street on Route. Francis was driven to Elyria Memorial Hospital. Clifton area reports note other minor crashes with three cars damaged on Route 37 near Valley View and a Cleveland street collision near Pasadena involving Paul Wyer and Saferino Dilushana.
